René J. Laglstorfer

Austrian Servant Abroad of the year 2008

Motivation

2003 I decided to do an Holocaust Memorial Service (HMS) instead of the ordinary military service in Austria.

A four years preparatory period gave me the chance to play an active role within Austrian Service Abroad and to prepare myself in the best possible way for my current tasks.

One of many reasons for my decision to undertake HMS was my intention to prove that nowadays, young Austrian men admit their responsibility and contribute an important part to making sure that the Holocaust will not ever be forgotten.

In November 2007, I finished my Master in Economic Sciences (Media Management) at St. Pölten University for Applied Sciences (Austria).

Right after I started my HMS at the Centre de la Mémoire in Oradour (France) for nine months.

In September 2008 I will continue my HMS at the Center for Jewish Studies in Shanghai (P. R. China).
